Canadian Tire Earns Top Marks on Climate Disclosure Index

TORONTO, Nov. 20, 2015 – Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited  is proud to announce that it is the only Canadian retailer to make CDP’s Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) for 2015.

CDP, formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project, is an international not-for-profit that aspires to drive sustainable economies and works to transform how businesses and governments operate to prevent climate change.

“As the only Canadian retailer to be listed on the index, it’s truly an honour to be recognized as a leader in climate change transparency,” said Robyn Collver, Senior Vice-President, Risk and Regulatory Affairs, Canadian Tire Corporation.

“We’ve made it a top priority to be more energy efficient, use fewer resources, produce less waste and reduce emissions in everything we do, which is good for our business and for the environment.

Whether it’s providing more innovative and environmentally-preferable products to our customers, developing more sustainable ways to package and deliver goods, or using new energy efficient technologies in our stores, we’re always seeking innovative ways to be more sustainable as a company.”

CTC earned its position on the index by disclosing high quality carbon emissions and energy data through CDP’s climate change program. The reported data has been independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology and marked out of 100. CTC received a score of “99 A-” up from “92 B” in 2014 and is a significant improvement from its 2013 score of “79 D”.

Canadian Tire’s sustainability leadership and efforts have been further recognized by several industry groups this year, including the Dow Jones Sustainability World & North America Indices and the Energy Star Market Transformation 2015 Award presented by Natural Resources Canada.
