TORONTO, Sept. 13, 2016 – A large majority of Canadians think that it is important for businesses to take action to reduce their transportation-related emissions, according to the 2016 Sustainable Business Attitudes Survey, which was commissioned by Bullfrog Power and performed by Environics Research from August 8 to 21, 2016, reaching 2,000 adult Canadians.
The survey reports that 56 per cent said it was “very important” and 34 per cent said “somewhat important” that businesses using vehicles, such as company cars, delivery trucks or long-distance tractor trailers, make efforts to reduce emissions from those sources.
The survey also found that 82 per cent of Canadians felt that the use of environmentally-friendly transportation, such as electric or hybrid vehicles or using green fuels like biodiesel, would be important in their decision to recommend a business.
“It’s encouraging that so many Canadians understand that businesses need to take action on the environment. But until recently, businesses had few options with respect to reducing their transportation emissions,” said Ron Seftel, Chief Executive Officer, Bullfrog Power. “With the addition of Bullfrog Power’s green fuel, we can now offer businesses a comprehensive suite of green energy products to address all of their energy impacts in a meaningful and effective way.”
Bullfrog Power’s green fuel is an earth-friendly, renewable alternative to liquid fossil fuel, allowing climate-conscious businesses in Canada to reduce the environmental impact of their transportation. By combining Bullfrog Power’s green natural gas, green electricity and green fuel products, businesses are able to address their scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions with a single green energy solution.
“Investors Group is proud to be choosing green fuel to reduce the environmental impact of our travel as part of our broader green energy commitment with Bullfrog Power,” said Andrea Carlson, Vice President of Finance and Corporate Responsibility, Investors Group.
“For Investors Group, supporting renewable energy is about more than emissions reductions, it’s about our continuing commitment to corporate citizenship and giving back to our communities.”
Last year, Bullfrog Power launched green fuel as a pilot project supported by TD Bank Group to help advance the shift to a more renewably powered transportation system.
“As North America’s first carbon neutral bank, TD manages its carbon footprint through a variety of measures, such as reducing our travel-related carbon emissions by supporting the use of public transit and investing in virtual meeting software – but we recognize that real change requires the diversification of energy sources,” said Karen Clarke-Whistler, Chief Environment Officer, TD Bank Group.
“By investing in Bullfrog Power’s green fuel, TD is investing in a new, cleaner energy source and helping to raise awareness of biofuel as a sound, low-carbon alternative to traditional fossil fuel-based transportation fuel.”
With the introduction of green fuel to the market, Bullfrog Power provided much needed funding to help biofuel producers grow their business at a critical stage for their industry. Today, Bullfrog Power works with a wide range of biodiesel producers and distributors, opening up its green fuel to more businesses looking to reduce the environmental impact of their transportation.
Today, bullfrogpowered businesses across Canada are reducing their environmental impact with green fuel, including eight in Ontario (Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co., Brew Donkey, Ernest Cider, GoJava, Mackenzie Investments, Mindful Snacks Inc., North Shore Eavestroughing and Office Coffee Solutions Ltd.), four in B.C. (Eclipse Awards, Ecotrend Ecologics, Ethical Bean Coffee Ltd. and Song and Ho Group LLP), one in Manitoba (Investors Group) and one in Atlantic Canada (Pete’s Fine Foods).
“We’re proud to be raising the bar in our industry by addressing our transportation-related emissions with Bullfrog Power’s green fuel and further optimizing our commercial fleet,” said Jessica Pelchat, Executive Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, Office Coffee Solutions Ltd.
Through the agreement with its green fuel customers, Bullfrog ensures that renewable fuel is injected into the Canadian fuel system on its customers’ behalf, displacing conventional fossil fuel litre-for-litre.
Conventional transportation fuel—gasoline, diesel or jet fuel—is made from petroleum. Businesses that choose to bullfrogpower their transportation are helping to green the Canadian fuel system, litre-by-litre, by introducing more renewable fuel into the system and thereby reducing the amount of petroleum needed to create transportation fuel in Canada. Bullfrog Power sources biodiesel from producers that repurpose waste streams from food and feed manufacturing and used cooking oils from restaurants and kitchen facilities and injects it into the Canadian fuel system on its customers behalf, displacing conventional fossil fuel.
About the Sustainable Business Attitudes Survey
The Sustainable Businesses Attitudes Survey was conducted via telephone by Environics Research with a representative sample of 2,000 adult Canadians (18 years of age or older), between August 8 and 21, 2016. The sample included a combination of landline (75 per cent) and cell phone (25 per cent) numbers. The margin of error for a sample of 2,000 is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points, 19 times in 20.
